#MondayMorningMuse: Miss Piggy

Posted By Film, Theatre, Women

Did you hear? Miss Piggy is receiving an award! On June 4th the infamous Miss Piggy will be given the Sackler Center First Award for her embodiment of “spirit, determination and grit,” and we couldn’t be more thrilled. This bodacious little piggy has not only stolen every scene she’s ever in EVER, but has also empowered young girls to be loud, strong and independent. So, in celebration of Miss Piggy’s achievement, here are a few of the valuable life lessons our favourite Muppet has taught us.

1. “Start out perfect and don’t change a thing. Always accentuate your best features by pointing at them. And conceal your flaws by sucker punching anyone who has the audacity to mention them.”

This lady is not afraid to be herself and is proud of it! Rather than focusing on the things you want to change about your appearance, focus on the things you love about yourself. And more importantly, get rid of anyone who doesn’t make you feel like awesome person you are.

Miss Piggy is not afraid to put gender norms to the test and we love her for it! While most might remember Miss Piggy by her impeccable sense of style and fabulousness, we remember all the times she slapped gender norms (and Kermit) in the face.

3. “What are awards? Mere baubles, mere bagatelles, mere Brussel sprouts. I give no thought.”

This Miss teaches us that you don’t have to be the best at something for it to be special. That LOVING what you do is enough. And that you should do what makes YOU happy, despite what anyone else thinks about it. Being the “best” is subjective, but your personal happiness isn’t.

4. “Express your feelings all the time. Unless you’re trying to hide something”

Sometimes the hardest thing can be expressing your feelings. Whether it’s in a relationship, with friends, or at work, telling those around you what’s on your mind can be difficult. Maybe you’re afraid of what people will think of you or how they will interpret what you say. We say—take Miss Piggy’s advice and say what you need to say without worrying so much.

5. While we might not go so far as to say “Too much exercise can damage your health,” it is important that you don’t over do it. We get it, it’s bathing suit season, but that means it’s also ice cream season! Exercising is important for so many reasons but it’s also important that you show yourself some love. Exercise because it makes you happy and energized and ready to take on your day! If your legs look hotter because of that—BONUS! But try not to get hung up on all the things working out can help you change. Focus instead on how it can help you feel like the badass you are.

Remember, the final deadline for The Muddy Mary Project’s first season is JUNE 1st. which means you still have 3 weeks to get in contact with Miss Piggy’s agent and see if she’s available to star in your show. She says she’s “[…] waiting for a really strong and meaningful female pig role.” Us too Miss Piggy, us too…
